We had the pleasure of speaking with Diane Mitchell, Assistant Principal of School of Business, Digital and Creative at Fife College, who recently completed our Executive Leadership Series. What motivated you to join our Executive Leadership Programme?
I joined the Executive Leadership Series because I wanted to grow as a leader and bring fresh ideas to my team. I was excited about learning from other experienced professionals, expanding my network across the college sector, and finding new ways to tackle challenges.
What were the most valuable skills or insights you gained?
The most valuable skills I gained were in strategic thinking and effective communication. I also learned a lot about emotional intelligence and how it can make a real difference in leading a team. Additionally, the programme helped me build a strong network of peers and mentors who provide ongoing guidance and support.
How has the programme impacted your leadership style and abilities?
The programme has truly transformed my leadership style. I’ve become more empathetic and confident, and I feel better prepared to inspire and guide the team. It’s given me new tools to handle difficult situations and to make more strategic decisions.
Can you provide examples of how you have applied these skills in your role?
Since completing the programme, I’ve introduced regular team-building exercises and improved our communication practices. This has helped our team to work more cohesively and stay motivated. I’ve also used strategic planning techniques to set clearer goals, which has helped us stay on track and achieve our targets.
Has your participation in the programme brought any noticeable benefits to your career journey, and/or organisation?
Absolutely. Being part of this programme has opened up new career opportunities for me and given me the confidence to apply for a promoted post in which I was successful. Additionally, the relationships I’ve built with other leaders in the sector have been incredibly beneficial.
How would you summarise your experience in a few sentences?
The Executive Leadership Series was a game-changer for me. It equipped me with crucial leadership skills and fresh insights that have made a real difference in how I lead. I’ve made friends, had fun, and most importantly, I now have a whole host of people I can rely on in this challenging landscape. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to elevate their leadership capabilities.
What advice would you give to future participants of the Executive Leadership Programme?
My advice is to dive in fully and be open to new ideas. Reflect on what you learn and think about how you can apply it to your role. The more you put into the programme, the more you’ll get out of it. Also, take the time to build and nurture relationships with your peers; they’ll be an invaluable support network in your leadership journey.
