Blog article written by CDN College Awards 2024 Gold Sponsor – CLD Standards Council Scotland

CLD Standards Council is delighted to sponsor the College Community Learning Award again this year.  We have been involved in the CDN Awards for many years and there is always lots of practice to learn from and share.

WHO WE ARE

The CLD Standards Council Scotland is the professional body for people who work or volunteer in Community Learning and Development (CLD), across the third and public sectors. Members include practitioners in youth work, community development and adult learning and all are involved supporting the empowerment of people and communities through lifelong learning and/or community development.

We are a member-led organisation.  Our approach, and the plans to deliver our core responsibilities, are defined by our member committees and based on feedback from our growing membership. We currently have over 3000 members practising in wide variety of settings across Scotland.  We champion a shared sense of identity amongst practitioners, providing a national voice for the sector, and reaffirming the importance of CLD in Scotland.

WHAT WE DO

We work with the sector to establish and maintain high standards of practice in CLD and are responsible for the registration of CLD practitioners, the approval of training courses, and supporting the professional learning of the sector workforce.  Underpinning all of these are the values, code of ethics and competence framework that set the standards for practice and define CLD as a profession.

HOW WE WORK WITH COLLEGES

The CLD Standards Council offers multiple approval and endorsement routes for Qualifications and Programmes of Continuous Professional Learning & Development.

Our Developmental Approval process is aimed at Qualifications such as HNC, NC, SVQ or PDA (our Professional route covers qualifications at SCQF Levels 9/10).   We currently have 3 Colleges who have achieved Developmental Approval; if you deliver or would like to deliver CLD qualifications, reach out to us or to your colleagues in Ayrshire College, Fife College, or Glasgow Kelvin College to see how it was for them!  CLD Standards Council Developmental approval also supports articulation agreements between colleges and universities. We provide bespoke input and support to institutions and organisations that have undertaken the Developmental Approval.

In addition, the Learner Engagement and Community Partnerships Team at Dundee & Angus College have achieved our Standards Mark – an organisational award focused on the provision of professional learning opportunities.

Both our Developmental and Standards Mark approvals provide national recognition of CLD learning opportunities for practitioners with strong focus on the values, principles, competences and Code of Ethics for CLD.
