The Virtual College Expo22 took place on Tuesday 23 and Wednesday 24 August, with the theme: Rewrite the College Story: Learning Experiences, Skills Development, Anchoring Communities.

Thanks to the hundreds of attendees who made the two days of College Expo such an incredible success!

The College Expo offered inspirational keynotes, workshops, seminars, Expo Movies, and panel debates.

With over 100 speakers, the Expo showcased the many and varied great work taking place across the college sector every day!

Below we provide a brief overview of the event.

College Expo22 Day One Recap

Day one of College Expo22 was officially opened by CDN Chief Executive Jim Metcalfe. Jim was followed by Jamie Hepburn, Minister for Higher Education and Further Education, Youth Employment and Training.

Mr Hepburn announced Danielle Jam, Scottish Actor and North East Scotland College Graduate as the eighth person to be inducted into the CDN College Hall of Fame. Danielle then provided an inspiring keynote speech sharing how college was the springboard to her dream of acting and about the personal qualities that drove her sparkling success.

Day one included 11 workshops, 6 seminars and 3 panel sessions.

Brand New to College Expo22 – Student Stories brought to you by Expo Movies! Expo Movies previewed some of the latest blockbusters from students across Scotland.

The first panel session ‘Professional Learningcentred around the key points identified within the recent Professional Learning Action Research. Read research here

We were delighted to welcome Fiona Robertson, CEO, SQA as the afternoon keynote speaker.

The second panel session ‘Student Experience‘ discussion centre around the key points identified within the recent Student Experience Action Research. Read research here

During College Expo, we welcomed the launch of new online course ‘Introducing Action for Sustainability. This course was developed for CDN by Learning for Sustainability Scotland (LfSS) and EAUC. View the course here

The third panel session ‘Leadership for the Future panel’ showcased the findings of CDN’s latest research on leadership in the college sector through the Covid pandemic. Read research here.

College Expo22 Day Two Recap

Day two of College Expo 22 was officially opened by CDN Chief Executive Jim Metcalfe. Jim announced Kayleigh Haggo, European Paralympic Youth Games Champion and Ayrshire College Graduate as the ninth person to be inducted into the CDN College Hall of Fame. Kayleigh also provided an extremely inspirational keynote speech.  Read full College Hall of Fame story here.

Day two included 12 workshops, 6 seminars and 2 panel sessions.

The first panel session of day two ‘Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design‘ discussion centred around the key points identified within the recent Institutional Approaches to Curriculum Design Action Research. Read research here

Next up, we welcomed Dr Mike Cantlay OBE, Chair, Scottish Funding Council to provide the afternoon’s keynote speech and introduce John Frace as the tenth College Hall of Fame inductee.

John Frace, founder and owner of Travelling Tabby and graduate at UHI Argyll was awarded as the tenth College Hall of Fame. John also provided a fantastic keynote speech. Read full College Hall of Fame story here.
