The Backbone of CDN: Supporting Every College, Every Step of the Way

At CDN, we celebrate innovation, learning, and collaboration – and at the heart of it all is our Finance and Corporate Services team, making everything possible. Often called the backbone of the organisation, they provide the structure, support, and expertise that allows the rest of CDN – and Scotland’s college sector – to truly thrive.

From finance and HR to IT, admin, and governance, Corporate Services ensures that CDN can deliver on its mission, supporting strategic networks, Communities of Practice (CoPs), leadership programmes, and much more.

Supporting the College Sector from Every Angle

Our work is wide-ranging, but a key focus is on Strategic networks and Communities of Practice. These spaces are vital for college staff across Scotland to connect, share knowledge, and enhance teaching and learning. Behind the scenes, Corporate Services ensures that these networks run seamlessly – administrative support and financial management, we make it all happen.

We also manage applications for CDN’s Elevate LT Programme, support leadership programmes, organise Board and team meetings, and provide guidance and resources to college staff and internal teams alike. Without these essential functions, none of the sector-facing work could happen effectively.

Meet the Team

Our Corporate Services team is not just the backbone – they’re the superstars of the everyday.

Marian is CDN’s longest-serving staff member and our ultimate knowledge bank. She supports the Chief Executive, Directors, and certificated courses, and in her spare time is a passionate community litter-picker, recognised by Keep Scotland Beautiful in 2024 as a ‘Clean Up Scotland Hero’.
  • Margaret Sweeney – Corporate Services Manager
Margaret ensures HR, IT, and network support run like clockwork. Her skills help both CDN staff and sector colleagues thrive. Outside of work, she’s exploring scenic walking trails with her dog and finds inspiration in country music stories and melodies.
  • Claire Mason – Finance Officer
