This year colleges across Scotland came together for the second year for the Big College Open Week.
From Thursday 21 March to Thursday 28 March college doors opened to showcase all that the sector has to offer at a national level. The purpose of the week was to raise awareness of the benefits and pathways offered by colleges – and we demonstrated this through an exciting range of activities in every college through the week.
Big College Open Week is part of the #ChooseCollege collaborative national campaign, organised by the CDN Marketing and Communications Network, highlighting the importance of Scotland’s colleges and encourage potential students to – Choose College.

Tuesday 26 March (4pm – 7pm) Each of our open days will feature an Exhibition Area showcasing each of our subject areas, allowing visitors to ask questions and meet the lecturers. There will also be a series of taster sessions where visitors can get hands on and try out some of our subject areas. |
The event is open to everyone, whether they are current students, have applied already, are thinking of applying for 2024/25 courses or are just looking to find out more about the College. It is free to attend and there is no need to pre-register, just show up on the day. More information will be posted on their social media pages. |

Friday 22 March (10am – 12.30pm) The Wildlife and Conservation Management team will lead you on a species and habitat exploration of the Barony Campus – we will look at how we can survey for wildlife and to start looking at the conservation methods we can employ. Rural Business Management Taster Day Friday 22 March (10am – 12.30pm) Join us to learn more about the exciting Rural Business Management course and take part in an interactive Rural Business simulation. This will be done indoors. Animal Care Taster Day Friday 22 March (10am – 12.30pm) An information session on the Animal Care courses offered at SRUC and then activities in the animal centre. Taking part in animal husbandry activities with a range of species. Veterinary Nursing and Animal Nursing Assistant Taster Day Friday 22 March (10am – 12.30pm) Join us for a tour of the farm facilities on campus followed by some exciting agriculture related activities. Please wear outdoor gear and waterproof footwear. Forestry and Arboriculture Taster Day Friday 22 March (10am – 12.30pm) Join us for a hands-on outdoor activity and see what a day looks like in forestry and arboriculture. Please wear outdoor flat shoes, hair tied back and appropriate outdoor clothing. |

Monday 25 March (2pm – 3.30pm) Join our Gamekeeping department for an overview of the gamekeeping courses run at SRUC and take a tour of the gamekeeping workshop and facilities. Animal Care Taster Day Tuesday 26 March (1.30pm – 3pm) Join our Animal Care department for a taster day at our purpose-built animal care unit. Come along and meet our friendly team and our huge range of residents, including tropical fish, exotic reptiles and small mammals. Horticulture Taster Day Tuesday 26 March (2pm – 3.30pm) Ever wondered what being a horticultural student at Elmwood would be like? Why not join our horticulture department for an afternoon? Meet our lecturers, take a tour of the beautiful grounds and facilities and take part in some practical activities.
