Sabhal Mòr Ostaig

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is the National Centre for Gaelic Language and Culture and a constituent part of the University of the Highlands and Islands. It is the only higher education institution of its kind in the world, teaching through the medium of Gaelic and where you are surrounded by the language and culture in a Gaelic community. Situated in a stunningly beautiful environment in the south end of the Isle of Skye, it is a very special seat of learning.

Sabhal Mòr Ostaig is a modern, innovative college and has excellent learning resources on-campus including an exceptional library collection, broadcast and recording facilities, residential student accommodation and a Gaelic-medium childcare facility.

The College offers a range of provision from beginners’ courses in Gaelic to degree courses in Media, Traditional Music and Education, postgraduate study and PhD research. There is also the opportunity to study via the distance learning programme and we currently have students in over 30 countries on this programme. The college also plays a leading role in the promotion of the Gaelic arts and culture and hosts a programme of residencies for artists in music, literature and the visual arts.

Graduates of Sabhal Mòr Ostaig occupy important positions today in spheres such as education, the arts, the media, economic and social development and public administration.
