Digital Skills Development in Scottish Colleges: A Scoping Project

Digital Skills Development in Scottish Colleges

As part of our Spark Insights focus, CDN is pleased to publish Digital Skills Development in Scottish Colleges: A Scoping Project, written by Walter Patterson on behalf of CDN.

Based on interviews with staff from across Scotland’s college sector, the report offers insight into how colleges are supporting the development of digital capabilities among their workforce. It highlights a sector in transition, as colleges move beyond reactive, system-led training towards more strategic and embedded approaches.

The research recognises the significant progress made in recent years, particularly in response to rapid technological change. At the same time, it identifies variation in strategic maturity, resourcing, and implementation across the sector.

The report also highlights opportunities for collaboration, shared learning, and enhanced national coordination to support colleges in strengthening digital capability development in ways that are practical, inclusive, and sustainable.
