First Ever Scottish Esports in Education Conference

In partnership with the British Esports Association, CDN is hosting the first ever Esports in Education Conference in Scotland on 24 March.

With an audience of half a billion people across the planet, revenues topping $1 billion in 2020, and esports arenas appearing across the UK, esports continues to grow year on year. This online conference brings together key speakers from the education landscape, industry, and the national body for esports to explore what is happening, as well as the opportunities available.

Free to attend, the event will provide information to support the future development of esports in Scotland – and will include discussion across all education sectors – schools, colleges, and universities.

Throughout the day there will be discussion on the evolution of esports as a curriculum area, information about esports qualifications, industry and career pathways, women in esports, cyber security and research. In addition, Jim Metcalfe, CDN’s Chief Executive will be presenting the Scottish College Cup winners 2020 with their award. Students from eight Scottish colleges battled it out in November last year for the title of best student Rocket League team, the nail-biting competition saw Edinburgh College emerge victorious.

Kenji Lamb, Digital and Innovation Lead at CDN, said:

“We’re excited to be working with British Esports to host the conference. Esports helps to build community in these difficult times, through gaming societies and inter-college competition. And for those with the skills and passion, there’s a pathway to a range of careers in the industry.”

Mark McCready, Scotland Representative at the British Esports Association said:

“It’s an exciting opportunity to develop the first Esports in Education Conference to cover all sectors of the Scottish education system. We’re privileged to have some of the leading stakeholders and institutions participate in the discussion and show how dynamic the esports industry is on a national scale. Being education focussed we hope that this will provide a greater scope of the esports industry and the benefits of engaging young people in their passions. I look forward to speaking to you on the day and enjoy the discussion.”
