Purpose of the Network
The Safeguarding Network is committed to supporting college staff, often at senior leadership level who have a strategic or operational responsibility to ensure their institution meets safeguarding legislation and national guidelines.
There is a strong sense of community and colleagues take a collegiate and collaborative approach to enhance the work in their college. Through professional discussions and sharing of good practice, it effectively contributes to ongoing improvements so that colleges remain responsive to any emerging safeguarding concerns within the educational landscape.
Focus of This Session/Current Priorities
- To ensure that legal requirements and national guidance is incorporated into college policies and procedures.
- To discuss and evaluate current practice, policies and procedures related to child/adult protection and safeguarding in the broadest terms – including updates on Prevent Duty, Corporate Parenting, Mental Health and Wellbeing and the Equally Safe Strategy (gender-based violence prevention and support framework).
- To consider safeguarding issues that relate to mental health and wellbeing.
- To engage in professional dialogue about common issues and solutions related to safeguarding.
- To ensure that college staff are suitably equipped with the necessary knowledge, skills and competencies to fulfil their safeguarding responsibilities.
- To work collaboratively with external agencies.
- Provide a platform for discussion and networking, sharing good practice
