Professional Standards
These Standards have been developed through partnership working between the CDN and GTC Scotland. They are designed as a benchmark for learning and teaching, and to enhance and promote professional learning. GTC Scotland has been given responsibility for these Professional Standards by the Scottish Government.
Understanding Colleges Today
Starting a new role in the college sector – or refreshing your knowledge – can feel overwhelming. That’s why we’re excited to launch Understanding Colleges Today, a free online course on CDN LearnOnline.
Designed to give you a clear, engaging introduction to Scotland’s colleges, the course blends interactive activities, videos, and reflective exercises to help you build confidence and deepen your understanding of the sector.
Ideation
Ideation is CDN’s invitation to explore the art and science of possibility. Designed to ignite curiosity and fuel innovation, it supports staff across the sector to build confidence, capacity, and capability—the ability to imagine, experiment, and evolve.
Through creative provocations, collaborative exploration, and futures-focused thinking, Ideation aims to nurture generating idea and re-ignite sparks of impactful evolutions; it’s about cultivating the conditions where everyone in the room has the opportunity for their ideas to grow, take root, and reshape what’s possible. Whether you’re just beginning your journey or already leading change, the Ideation offers space, tools, and inspiration to envision new futures… and to begin building them today.
The Changing Learner
Following the successful implementation of CDN’s Trauma-Informed College Programme, which was developed from our series of Pathways from Poverty reports, we are now launching our expanded Changing Learner Programme, which incorporates the next phase of the Trauma-Informed College Programme as one of its ‘four pillars’ and adds three new areas: Promoting Positive Behaviours and Resolving Conflict, Culture and Community, and Staff Wellbeing and Safeguarding.
