Virtual College Expo 23 landed at a screen near you on Wednesday 21 June and Thursday 22 June with the theme, ‘Developing Practice Across Tertiary Education’.

Hundreds of delegates registered and attended this two-day virtual event which followed on from the recent Expo Roadshows at Borders College, Forth Valley College and UHI Inverness.

College Expo 23 Recap of Day 1

Marie Hendry, CDN Chief Executive, officially opened Day 1 of College Expo 23 and introduced Graeme Dey MSP, Minister for Higher and Further Education; and Minister for Veterans.


The Minister welcomed delegates to this event and announced that Darren MCGarvey, would be the 12th person to be inducted into CDN’s Hall of Fame.


With busy working commitments, Darren had recorded an inspiring acceptance speech. As an author, social commentator, broadcaster and musician, Darren is a vocal supporter of the college sector and cites attending Glasgow Clyde College to study HND Practical Journalism as a pivotal moment in his life. Professor Nazira Karodia MBE, Deputy Vice Chancellor and Vice Principal, Napier University, followed with the keynote address of the day.

Day 1 then split into three streams offering a choice of 3 seminars, 12 workshops and a panel session.


After a welcome coffee break, the second round of choices included a seminar and two workshops.


The third round of a seminar and two workshops seamlessly followed


With heads buzzing and limbs needing stretched, a half hour lunch break gave delegates a short break before joining the afternoon’s sessions. Next up is a panel session and two workshop streams, each offering three sessions.


The afternoon workshop sessions started with Hybrid Teaching – Good Practice led by Forth Valley College and Dundee & Angus College in the first stream and Unlocking Digital and Data Innovation with Power BI with Edinburgh College in the second stream.

CDN Chief Executive, Marie Hendry welcomed delegates back for the second day and introduced Morgan Dee, Director of AI and Data Science, EDUCATE Ventures Research as the day’s keynote address.

A packed day followed with 6 seminars and 12 workshops over three streams.


There was time for a quick break before the second round of sessions.


Seamlessly followed by the third round of sessions.


Lunchtime and a chance to take a 30 minute break before the afternoon sessions began.


And with a seamless manoeuvre, another seminar and two workshops started.


Last and by no means least, the final seminar and workshops of College Expo23 aired.
