Course overview

The Emerging Leadership Programme is a blended learning course that will equip you with the essential principles and practices of leadership and management. You will learn how to lead ethically and effectively, how to empower and motivate your team, and how to monitor and improve their performance. You will also gain insights into your own strengths and areas for development and receive feedback and support from your tutor and peers.

The certificate consists of two units:

  • Principles of Leadership Practice
  • Principles of Managing and Leading Individuals and Teams.

Each unit requires 30 and 25 guided learning hours respectively, plus self-directed study and assessment.

Course delivery

This is a blended learning programme. Participants will attend 11 x 2-hour on-line workshops, over 6 months, interspersed with guided and self-directed learning. The workshops combine tutor input, practical activities, peer learning and reflective practice.

Assessment

The course is based on the CMI Level 5 RQF (level 8 SCQF) Certificate in Management and Leadership, which you will receive upon successful completion of the course and two written assignments. The graded system for CMI qualifications is ‘Pass/Refer’. If a candidate does not pass on their first attempt, they will be given developmental feedback and allowed a second and final submission.

Progression opportunities

Upon successful completion of this qualification, participants can progress to further learning within the suite of qualifications at this level or, where appropriate, to a higher-level qualification such as the Strategic Leadership programme offered by CDN.

CMI Membership

Participants will be provided with free Affiliate membership of the CMI through until the completion of their studies, Member benefits can be found here.

Total cost of the programme for college staff is £540 (incl. VAT).
